KITCHENER, ON, April 8, 2014 /CNW/ - Waterloo Brewing Co., the craft brewing division of Brick Brewing Co. Limited (TSX: BRB), was awarded gold, silver and bronze medals in its core beer styles - Pilsner, Dark Lager and IPA- at the recent Ontario Brewing Awards.
This year's awards were held at the Gladstone Hotel in Toronto on April 3, 2014 and included 251 entries, competing within 29 different categories from 46 different Ontario breweries of which only 31 received an award. "As the only craft brewer in Canada to be certified under the BRC Global Standard for Food Safety, these awards are a testament to our continued commitment towards giving our customers the highest quality beer we can possibly make" said Russell Tabata Chief Operating Officer, Brick Brewing.
Waterloo Pilsner won gold in the Pilsner category in its first Ontario Brewing Awards against an extremely competitive field of well-established brands of beer. "There are lots of people who discovered Waterloo Pilsner last summer, with its deep golden colour and not over-the-top hop finish" said George Croft, President and CEO of Brick Brewing. "To win gold in such a popular category is a great accomplishment, and a great reason to give this beer a try" added Croft. Waterloo Dark adds a silver medal in the Dark Lager category to its long list of Ontario, Canadian and international brewing competition successes. Waterloo Dark has been the most popular dark beer in Ontario for over twenty eight years and helped establish the local craft beer category.
To complete the hat trick for Waterloo Brewing Co., Waterloo IPA took home bronze in the British Pale Ale category. "Waterloo IPA is simply an outstanding beer with a deep amber colour, all-malt character and a hop finish that's just right. I am very proud of our brewing team that puts so much care and craft into these great beers. And we're all very proud to share them with our friends and neighbours in Ontario" declared Mr. Croft.
Waterloo IPA and Amber were also recently awarded gold at Monde Selection in Belgium, an international recognition of product quality. Waterloo Dark and Pilsner were awarded silver. The family of Waterloo Brewing Co. beers has grown by over 30% in the last year and is quickly becoming a favourite of all beer drinkers who appreciate the effort that goes into a well-crafted beer.
